Dear Friends,

Welcome to our new website. It is my hope this information will not only describe a basic framework of our residency, but also provide a feel for the intangibles we believe are a part of the fabric of our training program. I also hope this website will illustrate the philosophy of education I try to bring to my position as Program Director.

I had the good fortune to experience a broad spectrum of medical education opportunities. I trained at a large, university-based program, and later directed that same program before practicing in Pasadena as a general internist. These experiences allowed me to see the best of academic and community medicine, and I hope they enable me to direct a program that provides a balance of the two.

I believe in academic rigor, attention to detail in patient care, empathy and interpersonal communication. I also feel personal time is important and cannot be neglected. As such, we have developed a program that provides opportunity to develop medical skills through exposure to a large number of patients under close, but not oppressive supervision. We have designed the curriculum and work responsibilities to provide our residents with extensive experience, while allowing for time to pursue activities and sustain relationships outside the hospital in a healthy way.

To those who are contemplating applying for a residency position, I hope this website answers your questions and stimulates your interest.
I welcome your inquiries and will personally try to answer any additional questions you may have.

Residency was one of the best times of my life and my career. It is my hope our graduates will be able to say the same about the time they spend at Huntington.

Sincerely,

Anthony G. Koerner, MD
Program Director
